According to a report released by Anthropic, the company's employee composition and work dynamics have undergone changes over the past year: the proportion of junior technical staff within the tech department has declined from 21% to 14%, while the share of newly hired junior technical roles has dropped from 27% to 9%; the overall tech team's representation among all employees has decreased from 61% to 56%. The company attributes this shift to business expansion and the rise of programming tools that enable non-technical personnel to develop software. In a survey conducted in April 2026, 27% of employees reported that Claude enhanced their productivity, while 20% indicated their work had transitioned from hands-on execution to managing Claude.
Anthropic also noted that the substantial volume of text generated by Claude requires significant human effort for reading and curation, making human attention and judgment a growing bottleneck in efficiency. The report shows that average meeting time per employee increased by 20% year-over-year, with a 16% rise among technical staff. Anthropic emphasizes that face-to-face collaboration remains indispensable for building trust and clarifying accountability. While the report indicates increases in per capita code output, sales volume, and contract processing rates, it cautions that higher code volume does not necessarily correlate with improved code quality or business outcomes; currently, no signs of declining code quality have been observed.
