It is reported that Anthropic is raising funds from Blackstone Group at an interest rate exceeding 10% to support its $60 billion "Project North Star" chip transaction. The initiative aims to procure approximately 1.5 gigawatts of custom TPUs developed by Google, potentially becoming the largest chip financing deal to date.

Sources familiar with the matter indicate that a Blackstone-affiliated fund will invest $9 billion in debt securities backed by Anthropic’s chip leasing payments over the next five years, accounting for half of the total $18 billion subordinated loan facility. The stated coupon rate on the debt is 10%, with the effective yield expected to be higher after factoring in issuance discounts and other fees; in contrast, BB-rated borrowers with similar credit profiles typically pay around 7% in the public high-yield bond market.
