According to TechCrunch, Uber announced the layoff of approximately 3,300 employees, representing about 10% of its global workforce. This round of layoffs is part of a broader company restructuring initiative aimed at reducing management layers by 20% and increasing investment in ride-hailing, food delivery, and robotaxi divisions. In an internal email, CEO Dara Khosrowshahi stated that the company will consolidate engineering, science, and delivery departments, while integrating restaurant, retail, and direct-to-consumer delivery operations.

Remote work positions will also be significantly reduced, with only under 1% of employees permitted to work remotely. Layoffs will primarily target personnel more than seven levels below the CEO, and teams with only 1–2 members will face a 50% reduction. Uber asserts this move is necessary to address operational complexity arising from growth and to optimize organizational structure.
