According to reports by The Wall Street Journal citing employee sources, Google's AI research division is set to release the new model Gemini 3.8 Flash, featuring significantly enhanced coding capabilities. Codenamed "Skimaki" internally, the model could go live as early as September 2nd. In benchmark tests comparing the new model against Google's internal coding tool Jetski, company engineers expressed stronger preference for this model over Anthropic's Opus.
