According to reports, the U.S. Federal Communications Commission announced on Tuesday that the Trump administration will prohibit the import of new humanoid robots, robotic dogs, and power inverters manufactured abroad, citing concerns that such devices could be remotely controlled by foreign governments, used for surveillance, or involved in cyberattacks, posing an "unacceptable" national security threat. The ban primarily affects imports from China; China currently dominates the global market for humanoid robots and solar inverters. The FCC stated that exceptions may be granted if the government determines a particular device does not pose a national security risk to the United States. Existing devices already in homes and use are exempt from the prohibition. Humanoid robots remain in early developmental stages, with global shipments projected at approximately 15,000 units in 2025, the majority of which are supplied by two leading Chinese robotics manufacturers.
