It was reported that Google announced on Wednesday it will extend the Play Age Signals API to global users by the end of 2026, enabling Android developers to tailor app experiences based on user age ranges. The API is already available in Brazil and is planned to be rolled out to Australia and Canada by mid-August, followed by full market coverage by year-end.

This technology allows developers to access user age range signals without accessing personal information such as birth dates; parents can choose whether to share their child’s age range via the Family Link parental control dashboard, while adults can opt to share their age when prompted by developers. Google stated that age ranges are not shared by default and require initial parent input and explicit opt-in. This feature will integrate with existing Google Play child safety tools, including restricting children’s access to certain apps, managing screen time, approving downloads, and setting PIN-based content filtering.
